Portfolio: compilation

You should have brought all of your old assignments with you today. Now comes the hard part: deciding which ones to include and/or re-work. Picking the proper pieces for your portfolio is important. You want to show a potential employer that you are versatile without looking scattered. It is important that your portfolio look clean and inspired! If you have great work mixed in with average (or worse, poor) work, it will say bad things about you as a designer.

Today we will be picking out what you'll want to include in your portfolio. There will be some assignments that you should include, even though they may not be your absolute best finished pieces. That's o.k., now is the time to dust off those old projects and re-work them to perfection!

You've learned a lot in the years you've spent in my classes and should be able to polish up your older pieces to make them shine! Take care to pay attention to the small details! This portfolio will be what potentially gets you (or loses you) a new job. It is your one chance to show a total stranger what you are capable of. Make it a collection of the best work you've ever done!

We will go over your projects today in class to decide what you should include. Once that list is made, you will need to re-work some of them for inclusion in your portfolio. Don't worry, I'm going to help you pick which ones to re-do (for a grade.) :) We will spend the next week or two tweaking and re-working your assignments until they are worthy of inclusion in your final book.
