Portfolios are due today

Portfolios are due today. Please bring your complete portfolio and resume with you to class today for our mock interview. I will grade your portfolio as we talk and will allow you to take it with you after class.

It's been a lot of fun having you in class and I wish you the best of luck in everything you do!

Take care, and have fun this summer!

Final portfolio workday

Use class time wisely and ask your fellow students, as well as me, what they/I think of your final portfolio arrangement. Remember, ordering your portfolio can make or break it! Good work displayed badly makes it bad work!

If you have any questions about your portfolio, now is the time to ask! You'll be turning these in on Monday! Be ready to present your work to me, explain it and answer questions about it!

Digital Portfolios due

Make sure you turn in your digital (PDF/iPhone) portfolios today for a grade. Keep working on your print portfolios. They will be due on Monday and will be graded during your interview.

Portfolio formatting

You should have a plan for your printed portfolio by now. I will be talking with you individually to see what that plan is. I'm issuing grades based on this plan since you were asked to have it ready for today's class. I hope you are properly prepared!

We will also be preparing your digital portfolio for display. The first thing we're going to do is start formatting all of your portfolio pieces into a single PDF. You can do this using Adobe Acrobat. This will be a good thing to have in case someone wants you to email them a copy of your work.

Additionally, you will also be formatting your portfolio pieces as .jpgs and sizing them to fit native iPhone/iPod touch resolution. Currently, the iPhone 4S has a screen resolution of 960 by 640 pixels at 326ppi. So we will use that for our base sizing and resolution for your digital portfolio.

You will turn in your PDF portfolio and your iPhone/iPod jpg portfolios on Monday.

In the mean time, make sure all of your print portfolio pieces are finalized and ready to be output. We will also start working on getting those printed on Monday. Order (or start making) your print portfolio ASAP! You will need to have it and bring it to class on April 25th. This will be GRADED. If you don't have your portfolio ready by then, you will receive a zero for your portfolio grade.

Our last day of class will be private interviews. I will be your potential employer and you will be trying to get me to hire you. This will NOT be a joke. Take it VERY seriously. This interview will be your final grade in class. Conduct yourself as young professionals (that means dressing accordingly - guys=shirt/tie - ladies=dress or suit) and be ready to talk about yourself, your knowledge of graphic design and your plan for the future. Explain to me how you would be an asset to my company and what makes you stand out from all the other applicants.

Portfolio

You should be finished re-working your portfolio assignments by now. Let's have a look at them and see what everyone thinks! We will critique these in class and discuss how your changes make your projects better. We will also now start working on formatting your portfolio assignments for print, PDF and iPod/iPhone.

You need to be prepared to spend a little money either making or buying a portfolio case to house your newly remodeled assignments. Presentation is important, so we will spend some time in class today looking online at cases and discussing options for making your own. At the very least, your work should be mounted on black matte board or black illustration board. They should all be cut to the same size and be METICULOUSLY crafted! No stray glue marks or bent corners on your portfolios!

Reworking portfolio assignments

Keep reworking your portfolio assignments today during class. I'll be checking out your work and giving you suggestions on how to make things better. Take your time with these projects, as your portfolio needs to contain the greatest work you've ever done! No pressure. . . :)
