Page layout: two-page magazine editorial

Since you know have a working knowledge of grid-based design, let's put that knowledge to work! This week's assignment is creating a two-page magazine editorial spread for ESPN magazine. You are a staff designer at ESPN mag and have been asked to create this week's two-page spread on the superbowl. The story should have a STRONG slant toward the winning team (NY Giants) and all graphics should be appropriate for an ESPN article.

First step: sketch out your layout designs. Go online and pick out some photographs to use for this article and use those photos to help you get an idea of your layout. Make sure to draw your grid structure in your sketches! START with the grid and fill in the rest.

I want to see THREE different layout designs for Wednesday's class. Sketch in pencil/pen and you can do your double-page spreads on a single sheet of 8.5x11 turned on it's side. Remember, you'll turn in THREE layout designs. Make them nice and neat. No torn edges or scribbled drawings. If it doesn't look nice to turn in, do it over!

Take your time! These sketches need to be legible and show me (ESPN's creative director) what this story will look like in the magazine. If I can't see your vision with your sketch, you've failed. TAKE YOUR TIME with these!!

HOMEWORK:
• Turn in your THREE different two-page layout sketches at the beginning of class on Wednesday
